Free People Search Sites

I have fielded many questions recently about good places on the web to perform a free people search.

One thing that you should know is that there are definitely limits to what you can find at free people search sites. For the most part, they are all based on the same 90 million record database of listed landline phone numbers.  This means that if the person that you are looking is unlisted they will not be found.  Additionally, this means that most cell phone numbers can not be found on these sites.

The following list contains some of the most popular free people search sites on the web.

• WhitePages.com – Special note: According to their site, WhitePages.com has 180M listings. That represents 80% of the US adult population
• SuperPages.com
• DexKnows
• YellowPages.com
• YellowBook
• Addresses.com
• Zabasearch – Has a lot of free public records data (some very old)

 If you think that the person that you are looking for has a social networking profile, you can also try searching for them at a variety of newer people search sites. Caveat, these sites often don’t provide contact information though. 

• Spock.com
• Wink.com
• PeekYou.com
• Pipl.com

Finally, if you are looking for a phone number or address for someone that is unlisted, your best bet is probably to use a people search service such as PeopleSearch.net that are available for a small fee.  This can save you hours of time.

Big Demand for People Search

Undoubtedly, there is a big need for people search services.  If you look on various question and answer sites online (e.g. Yahoo Answers), there are many questions posted each day from regular people looking for other people. 

Additionally, according to a 2007 Search Engine watch blog, up to 30% of all Searches on Google and Yahoo are People Search Related. I am not sure if the number is that quite high but it is certainly a significant portion of searches. Moreover, all indications are that the number of people searches are actually growing!
