Everyday it seems, we are seing more layoff announcements in the news. Starbucks laying off 6,700. Boeing planning reduction of 4,500. In this time of economic uncertainly, all companies, big and small, are looking for ways to cut costs.
Given the above, I would certainly encourage CFOs and finance teams to examine their company telecom costs closely. According to this
CFO magazine article, telecom costs (including 411 calls) are typically among a company’s leading 3 or 4 expenses. At $1.50 each and even higher for wireless 411 calls, it is easy to see how these expenses can add up very quickly.
As an alternative, I would highly encourage your employees to use a free directory assistance service such as WhitePages.com. It is both fast and easy to use. Perhaps even put a link to the site on your intranet.
To cut down on wireless 411 fees, I would encourage all employees to bookmark a free mobile 411 service such as WhitePages Mobile into their mobile browsers. If they still want to call, you can have them pre-program GOOG-411 into their phones.
If you take these measures, I think that you will be surprised at just how much money you can save.
Wouldn’t it be better to cut some 411 costs in order to save jobs.
